Susan McGill

Sue has over 16 years experience working in the technology and media space – as an entrepreneur and builder of brands for companies such as Lotus, RIM, Yahoo!, CanWest Media, and MySpace. Before becoming a Senior Advisor at MaRS, Sue was Executive Director of Sales, Marketing & Business Development for News Corporation, responsible for launching and driving growth for MySpace - one of the largest social media brands globally - here in Canada. Prior to joining News Corporation, Sue was Vice President, Operations for CanWest Media's Interactive Broadcast division. In this role, Sue was accountable for leading the integration of CanWest’s interactive broadcast assets with those of the acquired Alliance Atlantis and developing a go-forward operational strategy for the combined operations. Prior to heading up Operations, Sue was VP of Strategy & Business Development. In this role she defined CanWest's Interactive strategy that encompassed the launch of several online products and services: a national online portal - canada.com; a suite of online classified brands; and, a collection of national broadcast and specialty TV websites. Sue started her career at Lotus Development where she held various positions across engineering, sales, marketing and corporate development in both Canada and the United States. After 8 years, Sue left Lotus to join a high-tech start-up venture, DWL, where she was responsible for the company’s global alliance and channel strategy. During her time at DWL, Sue secured Accenture as a strategic equity partner and IBM as a global re-seller and services delivery partner. Both partnerships helped facilitate market entry into Europe and Asia. In 2005, IBM acquired DWL. Sue holds a degree from the University of Western Ontario.
