The Next 36
The Next 36 Event at the Weston's
In the decadent (pun intended) gardens of the Weston family backyard in Forest Hill, a group of newbie entrepreneurs rubbed shoulders with business bigwigs to celebrate their entry into Next 36, a nine-month program that gives young Canadians the guidance, connections, and financial start to build a mobile venture. Program partners Jimmy Pattison and Paul Desmarais Sr. joined Galen Sr. along with a slew of sparkly Toronto heavyweights from Joe Mimran and the AGO’s Matthew Teitelbaum to Rogers Communications president Nadiro Mohamed and the CBC Dragon Bruce Croxon. Next 36 graduate Jane Wu spoke about her startup, PenyoPal, which teaches children Mandarin through interactive games while the 200 onlookers mingled about the grounds and sipped on white and rosé wine. Next to the Honourable lady Weston’s stunning white pantsuit, however, the best part of the night actually happened on the driveway when the pink PC ice cream made an appearance at dusk; ice cream sandwiches for everyone.
