From venture fairs and angel networks to startup showcases and demo camps, today’s technology entrepreneurs all learn one crucial lesson: If you can’t compellingly and concisely explain what your business does, and why you’re convinced it will succeed, you won’t be in that business very long.
And now this reckoning is spreading from the tech world to other industries. It’s partly the Dragon’s Den effect, but it also relates to the increased specialization of businesses today. As market niches get more complicated, and entrepreneurs’ personalities and values become essential parts of their brand, there are few “simple” businesses any more.
